Component cleaning – cleanliness made to measure

Cleanliness does not end with the removal of visible particles – invisible residues such as oils, greases or other filmic contaminants can also significantly impair the function of sensitive high-tech components.

Immediately after receipt of the goods, your components are first subjected to a visual inspection. Our experienced employees then remove coarse particles, oil and grease in a specially equipped pre-cleaning station. This step lays the foundation for the subsequent cleaning process and ensures that your components meet the “oil and grease-free” industry standard right from the start.

For parts from our own production, pre-cleaning takes place particularly quickly – no later than 30 minutes after the last processing step. We have our own cleaning stations for this purpose, and in future we will even have robot-assisted inline cleaning directly at our turning/milling centers. In this way, the surface cleanliness is already maintained during the manufacturing process and optimally prepared for the subsequent cleaning steps.

To achieve the best possible results, we coordinate the cooling lubricants used closely with our customers. This allows us to reduce residues in a targeted manner and further increase the efficiency of pre-cleaning. With this approach, we ensure that every assembly is transferred to the fine cleaning stage with a high level of cleanliness.

Highest purity for sensitive components

In practice, this means that surfaces must not only be free from particles and chips, but also from viscous substances such as lubricants or cooling lubricants, preservative films or fingerprints. We use state-of-the-art processes – from ultrasound and high-pressure cleaning to solvent and osmosis processes – to reliably remove these residues.

We rely on wet cleaning in several ultrasonic baths that are precisely matched to the material and geometry. The cavitation effect of the sound waves reaches even hard-to-reach areas, while special in-house wash basket ozilattin devices protect surfaces and prevent damage.

Our fully automatic systems work batch-pure and use cleaning media that are individually tailored to your requirements. This is supplemented by our in-house treated osmosis water, which ensures virtually residue-free cleaning. Process controls such as conductivity measurements and particle analyses continuously monitor cleanliness.

The advantages are obvious: solvent-free, low-waste processes ensure sustainability, while the flexible manual handling reliably cleans even complex geometries. With frequency ranges from 25 to 140 kHz – up to systems in the MHz range – we can reliably remove a wide variety of particle sizes.

WASSERMANN TECHNOLOGIE, we focus on cleaning and testing in accordance with the specifications of DIN EN ISO 14644-9 (particulate surface cleanliness) and DIN EN ISO 14644-10 (chemical surface cleanliness).

This cleaning stage is ideal for industries with the highest cleanliness requirements, including the semiconductor industry, nanotechnology, optics, medical technology and vacuum technology. Whether assemblies for state-of-the-art lithography systems or sensitive storage media – we deliver precise, documentable results.

In this stage, cleaning takes place in a specially controlled clean room area. A fully automated high-performance system is used to treat components in a batch-clean and reproducible manner. The components pass through several precisely coordinated process steps – from rinsing to ultrasonic and high-pressure cleaning through to final drying.

All parameters such as temperature, duration and media used are precisely adapted to the geometry and material of the component. In this way, we ensure that both coarse and filmy residues are completely removed. The combination of standardized procedures and individual process adaptation enables a cleaning result that meets the highest international cleanliness standards.

With black light testing, we make even the smallest oil- or grease-based residues visible that are barely visible to the naked eye. The inspection takes place in a darkened cleanroom tent with a powerful black light lamp and enables fluorescent lines or dots to be clearly displayed on the surfaces. These mark the exact position, shape and size of the residues or defects.

Based on these results, our trained employees can carry out targeted reworking and ensure that your components reliably meet the required cleanliness standards. The method is fast, precise and particularly effective when it comes to identifying residues on mechanical components.

The white light inspection supplements our quality control with an intensive visual inspection under neutral lighting. In a darkened clean room tent, components are irradiated with strong white light so that even the finest particles, scratches or surface irregularities are visible.

This method enables reliable visual confirmation of component quality. Conspicuous areas can be identified directly and cleaned manually so that each part passes to the next process step with an optimum degree of cleanliness.

Especially for sensitive sectors such as medical technology, optics or the semiconductor industry, this visual final inspection is an important part of our quality assurance – simple, effective and reliable.

In order to guarantee the highest quality and purity standards, we combine our in-house testing technology with analyses in specialized partner laboratories. In this way, we ensure that your components not only reliably meet our internal specifications, but also all industry-specific standards. One focus is on regular customer sampling, such as the analysis of cooling lubricants, in order to continuously monitor process quality.

In addition, we offer extended services in cooperation with laboratories:

Safe processes for large-format assemblies and packaging environments

Our ISO class 7 cleanroom surfaces are ideal for the assembly or packaging of larger assemblies. ISO 7 is based on the DIN EN ISO 14644-1 standard and allows a maximum of 352,000 particles > 0.5 µm per cubic meter of air. This creates a controlled environment that is essential for many high-tech industries such as pharmaceuticals, medical technology, the semiconductor industry and precision engineering.

In addition to the packaging environments, our material airlocks also meet the ISO 7 standard, ensuring particle protection throughout the entire process. Only special cleanroom films and bags are used in the packaging area and the material airlock, which are themselves manufactured under strict conditions to ensure the purity and integrity of sensitive products.

While large-format assemblies are packaged in ISO 7, assembly can also take place under stricter conditions depending on requirements. For example, small parts can also be packed in our laminar flow box in accordance with ISO 5, while the actual assembly of components can take place under ISO 6 conditions if required. This graduated process environment enables us to react flexibly to different customer requirements and always ensure the necessary cleanliness.

Flexible cleanroom space for the most demanding projects

For complex assemblies and sensitive components, our clean room has a 7 × 7 meter assembly area in accordance with ISO class 6 (DIN EN ISO 14644-1). This environment is designed for particularly high cleanliness requirements and allows a maximum of 35,200 particles > 0.5 µm per cubic meter of air – a significant step beyond the ISO 7 requirements.

The air is cleaned by modern HEPA filters and fed into the work area at precisely defined air exchange rates, keeping the particle concentration reliably low. In addition, temperature and humidity are permanently monitored and precisely controlled. In this way, we create the constant conditions that are essential for highly sensitive assembly processes.

Our ISO 6 environment is used wherever increased cleanliness is required – for example in the assembly of semiconductor components, in nanotechnology or in the integration of sensitive robot systems. High-precision laser systems can also be assembled here safely and in compliance with standards.

Thanks to this combination of state-of-the-art technology, controlled environmental parameters and trained specialist personnel, we guarantee that even particularly demanding assemblies can be manufactured with ISO 6 cleanliness – precisely, reliably and with a low particle count.

Highest purity for the smallest components and sensitive applications

For particularly sensitive components, we offer assembly services under ISO class 5 conditions in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14644-1. This cleanliness class is one of the highest of all and only allows a maximum of 3,520 particles ≥ 0.5 µm and 20 particles ≥ 5.0 µm per cubic meter of air. In order to reliably comply with these strict values, we work in our laminar flow box – ideal for workbench-sized assemblies.

Here, a directed air flow ensures that suspended particles are consistently kept away from the products to be assembled. In addition, temperature and humidity are precisely controlled, while our specialist staff wear special cleanroom suits to eliminate any source of contamination. Surfaces and work areas are cleaned regularly, and positive pressure prevents the ingress of particles from adjacent zones.

ISO 5 environments are indispensable for assembly in the semiconductor industry, medical technology, optics and aerospace technology. Accordingly, we assemble the smallest assemblies, precision parts and highly sensitive components directly in the flow box and then pack them there too. In this way, the cleanliness achieved is fully maintained from the first handle to the final packaging.
